Default Electric Bike Schwinn I-zip. 2008

Electric Bike Schwinn I-zip.

Hello ..
I present you my electric bicycle SCHWINN, buy at CANADIAN TIRE, 2 years ago ..

Engine 450 watts .. 24 volt 7 speed ..

Upon purchase, the price was $ 499.00.

I install a second BOX (2 X SLA 12 volt) battery, doubling the execution time ..

I was lucky to find a second bicycle SCHWINN complete, similar to mine, for the sum of $ 200.00

Spare parts will not fail.

When the first box battery is almost flat, I disconnect the wire, and I connect on the second box battery ..

The first battery( 2 BATTERY SLA 12 VOLT ) of my bike has been changed a month ago, and I ride 35 klm while helping a bit.

With 2 BOX batteries I can run 65/70 klm, very easily.

I ride with a single battery for a short trip. Total 15/15 (30 klm)

The installation was very simple ..

3 small brackets made of aluminum.

This bike is very well built, the rays are very large, and the frame is very solid ..

I change the seat for another, which comes from a bike EASY-GO

I am very satisfied with this bike .. it is a little heavy, but in my bulding, there is a lift, no problem to mount it on my balcony.

These few changes, will make this bike, a bike more powerful, and the price is reasonable.

I now present this bike ..

#################################################

With the purchase.......

With its three anchors ..

With 2 batteries .. and his new saddle EASY-GO

Some other changes to come.:

PS .. I work with a translator .. Thank you

Nice bike and nice job on your second battery mod. If you have sealed lead acid batteries in those boxes, you should consider upgrading to Thunder Sky LIFEPO4 packs when the SLAs die. They should fit into those boxes with room to spare. The good news is that there are distributors in the US and Canada that sell them at reasonable prices and you don't have to deal with shipping charges from China, especially for warranty work. Here's one of the Canadian distributors, they sell the 12V 20AH packs for $124 CDN dollars. Lithium (LifePo4) Batteries | Electric Autosports Inc.

Cool bike.

Mountainbiker....
Thank you for the address.
I keep it preciously.

Yes, they are battery lead (SLA).
I considered changing the heavy lead battery for lighter. I'll change this when my (SLA) will be dead.

So, 2 battery, per box, the price would be $ 250.00 ..

My second battery (2 x Lithium LiFePO4) would be useful ?

I want to keep my distance from 65/70 is currently klm.

With only one box (2 x Lithium LiFePO4) what will my mileage ?

Thank you for information.

##############################################
One of my friend, had two (fenders) for sale ($ 10.00), I jumped at the opportunity.
I did not install, but roll into the water, is not very fun.
I have installed.

PS .. I will have more changes to make in some time.

Hello eldrijt ..

I check lately, distance traveled, with a box of two 12-volt battery (SLA) brand new.

I traveled 34 klm, with a little assistance.

Not too much wind, and a fairly flat terrain.

My cruising speed is .. in KLM

I am satisfied.

Little information ..

I am 65 years old and my health is still good, despite two small heart attack.

Texx,

I built a 24V 20AH LIFEPO4 pack using the Thundersky cells this spring. I had hoped to do some long rides by now, but we've had 3 1/2 weeks of daily rains out here in the cold, soggy northwestern US (I'm west of Glacier National Park). I've gone 20 miles on the new battery and had plenty of capacity left in it and that's in very mountainous terrain with steep hills. If we actually dry up and have some warm weather next week I'll ride to a town that's 20 miles from me. I think I'll have no problems and won't be running out of power on a 40 mile trip, but then I pedal and don't just rely on the motor. I still have my original SLA on the rear rack, although it's beginning to loose capacity. This summer I'll build a second Thundersky LIFEPO4 pack.

Mountainbiker .. Thank for info .

So, the LiFePO4 Thundersky pac would be the best solution for my I-SCHWINN ZIP.

The weight will probably declined somewhat?

When the time comes, I'll change.

20 miles for one (SLA-NEW 14 amp) with minimal assistance, is it good ? For now.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I drive about 700 miles per season, so I have a total of 1,400 miles, with my SCHWINN.

I think this SCHWINN, is a good bike. No problem for now.

I help the engine in the climb, and also starts.

As I said, my speed is about 20 klm-h (12 miles per hour)

The gas at the bottom, I ride 28/30 klm-hr.

The LIFEPO4 aren't going to be a lot lighter than your current batteries, but they will pack more amp hours. If your SLAs are 14AH, these will pack 6 more amp hours, if you buy 2 12V 20AH packs and wire them in series. The OEM SLAs that come with the conversion kit is only 24V 10AH, just like the RBM Ezip and Izip models. My new pack is only slightly long and a bit deeper than the OEM SLA pack but packs twice the power, so I don't mind that it's about the same weight as the OEM SLA. Here's a photo of my new pack next to the OEM SLA for comparison.

Mountainbiker ..
Your information on LiFePO4, help me a lot in this future project.
Thanks again.

I will study the subjects of this wonderful forum, and surely I will learn a lot.

I have a few other changes I made to my SCHWINN-ZIP.

Thank for the photo.

While I also love my Thunder Sky packs please keep in mind they are larger then the SLA currently being used. You do not indicate the AHs rating of your current SLA packs. I am guessing they are only 8ah to 12ha packs and your motor is a 250w. If this is correct then the TS packs will run your bike at least 4 time as far as 1 of your currect packs and with more power. However, they will not fit where you are currently carring them on the bike so you would need to creat a new mounting.

It would be a very good idea to connect your 2 SLA packs together so they are both being discharged at the same time. This will imcrease the life of the packs and your power draw will also improve.

go4it,

His SLAs are 24V 14AH. I believe the boxes for his batteries are a lot larger than the cases for the OEM batteries we have. I think 2 Thundersky packs would fit in one of his boxes easily. However, he can always measure to make sure.

I installed these two aluminum pedals found on a bicycle abandoned.

They are bigger than normal. The foot does not skid. I like them

HELLO.....

I meet a cyclist who has installed a kit BIONX on his SCHWINN .. and also a second 24 volt SLA battery on his luggage rack ..

It must travel several klm with its two systems.

He said he did not pedaling, who hurt a knee.

I advised him not to cover his rear engine, with his bag .. The engine could overheated ..

It uses a system to roll, and the other for helping uphill.

What do you think about this idea .. The kit BIONX is quite expensive .. I think.

Here's super electric bike ..

I really like how your batteries are not right over the rear wheel like mine. Better balance. And 14AH is big plus.

eldrijt ..
It is true that the balance is better.
Both battery, are closer to the ground ..

At the end of 2008 (autumn advanced), I sold my SCHWINN a neighbor in my bulding to buy the 2008 model E-Zip Hybrid Electric Bike Trailz. I also buy the second battery, after a few ballads, I had perceived as rocking the bike (with its two battery) wore me out a little.

Two weeks later, in a curve, I'm falling, I had a terrible sore throat, and the next day, I sold this bike to a buddy.

I already regretted my old SCHWINN ..

In spring 2009, the owner of my SCHWINN said he is too busy for the use SCHWINN, and he wants to sell.

WOW, I did not hesitate, and I buy my SCHWINN at a good price.

If the battery of the E-Zip Trailz was installed a little lower, I would not have this problem.

Now, I'm less nervous, the bike holds the road well.

-------------------------------------------------------------
For the battery, when I go to the store to replace my battery, the seller, I propose 14 ah, instead of 12 ah , stock.
I do not regret it.

I have another similar bike,( SCHWINN ) so I do not have to worry about the pieces.

He is currently in pieces.

My old E-Zip Hybrid Electric Bike Trailz..

Texx,

I don't see torque arms on that Bionix front hub motor. That gentleman is running a risk of his fork drop outs breaking and the front wheel falling off the bike, especially if that front suspension fork is aluminum. He really needs torque arms.

go4it is right about the Thundersky cells being too large for your OEM packs. Your packs look bigger in your photos. The dimensions of the individual Thundersky 20AH cells is 75mm x 180mm x 168mm or 2.952" x 7.0866" x 6.614." To build a 24V 20AH battery pack, you need 8 cells. It's too bad. I like the looks of your OEM packs. You could build a slightly wider and longer pack to fit where your supplemental battery is mounted. Having one 20AH LIFEPO4 pack coupled with a 14AH SLA would be a decent option.
